I visited the Wednesday church sale twice recently. While the first week was pleasant, the second week left me incredibly disheartened. While in the toy room, I witnessed two volunteers making derogatory comments about the shoppers who had just left. After they exited, the volunteers commented loudly on “the awful smell” of the previous customers, followed by, “but their money is good all the same.”
I was standing right there with my mother and was shocked by the blatant lack of respect and the transactional nature of their “kindness.” It felt like because I am a white, “presentable” person, they assumed I would agree with their prejudice. I ended up leaving immediately. It was a sad reminder that for some, “Christian love” is very conditional. I won’t be returning.
As Jesus said “Love thy neighbor, but only if they look and smell good. Otherwise, just take their cash and mock them.”
Excellent service today! Beautiful church.
What a magnificent heritage building! We thoroughly enjoyed the service and its message of hope and inclusion. A very welcoming experience.
Architecturally stunning church, one of many beautiful buildings in Swift Current.
Great… huge church, great sanctuary. Also lots of meeting space.
