If you’re in Calgary and have even the slightest interest in aviation, the Hangar Flight Museum is absolutely worth visiting. The experience was fantastic from start to finish. The museum offers an incredible amount of history and detailed information, not just about aviation in general, but specifically about Calgary’s own contributions to the industry.
What I really appreciated was how well it highlights our city’s aviation heritage — showing how local innovation, military training programs, and aviation pioneers helped shape not only Alberta’s history, but Canada’s as a whole. Walking through the exhibits really puts into perspective how aviation played such a crucial role in building the Calgary we know today.
The aircraft displays are impressive, and the way the stories are presented makes it easy to understand the significance behind each piece. You don’t just see planes — you learn about the people, the missions, and the impact.
Overall, it’s a very cool place to explore, especially if you’re an aviation enthusiast. Whether you’re a student pilot, industry professional, or just someone curious about flight, this museum does a great job of connecting the past to the present. Highly recommend checking it out!

Had a wonderful time checking out the Hangar Flight Museum in Calgary on a Sunday morning. It’s chock-a-block full of vintage airplanes, engines and even the old art display airplanes from the airport. I especially appreciated the rare triplane and Lancaster bomber.

Dwight was kind enough to show us around and he is a lovely volunteer, very knowledgeable and friendly. He even gave us a peek behind the scenes.

We also did the guided tour and it was really enjoyable. Don’t miss the outdoor hanger as well with its interesting collection of helicopters, bomber and airplanes. Definitely worth checking out!

If you know of (or you yourself happen to be) someone who will happily spend hours going from plane to plane, monloguing a seemingly endless stream of facts about horsepower, payload capacity, and overall use in combat during WWII, then this is the nicest way for that person to spend a Saturday afternoon.
Maybe also buy them a cool hat in the gift shop afterwards.

Fun fact: if said person leaves enough time for you to also visit the Military Museums (does your child/friend/partner/loved one also enjoy tanks?), then your receipt here will provide discounted admission there!

If you yourself are not one to happily spend hours spouting facts about planes or tanks or the belt mechanism of machine guns, then bring water and snacks, wear comfortable shoes, and enjoy snapping photos of them bent over to peer at a fuselage as they talk to whomever may be close enough to listen.
You may even get hugs at the end!
I sure did.

A nice collection of Canadian aviation history. The Lancaster is very impressive. A wonderful little gift shop when you first enter with an assortment of clothing and toys to commemorate your visit. I visited on Saturday morning and it was not busy but was getting busy when I left at lunchtime. Go when it first opens if you want to avoid crowds. Discount for veterans.
